The Business Case for Rail: Kiwi Companies Choosing Lower-Emissions Freight
Customer case study series ‘Moving New Zealand Forward: The Business Case for Rail’ launched by the Sustainable Business Council and KiwiRail.
A new customer case study series, ‘Moving New Zealand Forward: The Business Case for Rail’ developed in partnership with the Sustainable Business Council (SBC), is showcasing real-world examples of where sustainability and commercial success can work hand in hand to reduce transport emissions while improving efficiency, resilience and long-term growth.
The first two case studies feature KiwiRail Freight customers and SBC members Fonterra and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners New Zealand. While each business faces different challenges, a common theme is how rail is helping to move goods more reliably, efficiently, and sustainably across New Zealand.
The series also demonstrates the power of collaboration. Created with KiwiRail Freight customers and SBC members, the case studies show how partnerships between industry, freight providers and sustainability leaders can unlock practical solutions to complex supply chain challenges and deliver value for businesses, communities and the environment.
Together with the Sustainable Business Council and our customers, KiwiRail will continue sharing stories that demonstrate the role rail can play in creating a more resilient, productive and lower-emissions future, with additional case studies to be released later in 2026.
